Help/How to

Help/How to

Greetings!

BASICS UP TOP,  MORE DETAIL IS BELOW….

This is the official home of SoundsGoodMan.com, the bands and music involved.

SoundsGoodMan.com is an Independent Music Label with 20 bands and close to 100 songs as of today covering a very wide range of music. Give a listen to as much as possible please.

Most of the music here are singles, but there are some albums.

When you reach the Home Page you will see album or music single cover art for several songs and if you click on one it takes you to the page that has a player for that song (if it’s a single) or the album where you can listen to a clip of the song and can purchase the whole song by clicking on the little shopping cart or the song name on the player where it takes you to CdBaby which is the digital distributor for all songs and bands on SoundsGoodMan.com

“CdBaby” is where the songs are stored and downloaded through their secure checkout.

—– If you want to check out more songs by that band while at CdBaby don’t just click “more albums”, instead, click right under the album/song cover photo where it says “Go To Artist Page” and there will not only be other songs and albums by that band (CDdaby calls all single songs and albums “albums” for some reason) but you’ll also see “Links” with links to the artist pages for the 20 SoundsGoodMan.com bands.

If you’d like to listen to the next song just scroll down right below the few lines of text below the player and click the left or right arrow and song name to get to the previous or next song (or album).

CdBaby calls all songs “albums” but you will see if it’s more than one song.

There is also a page with videos with shorter clips of 10 songs a piece so you can preview more, faster but as of today there are only videos for the first 90 songs, more vids will come soon.

If you check the “Bands” section or the list of pages (like “how to”, etc) you’ll find most anything you may want to see or know including help on how to download, etc.

Please know your support independent music is greatly appreciated. Without support from listeners, independent musicians aren’t able to devote time to their craft and the songs, the writing and recording and you make that possible, so THANK YOU!

More detailed help…

The players on this site are 30 second clips, to buy the full song just click the little shopping cart or song name on the music player and that takes you to CdBaby where they have it nice and easy to get the song.——- “CdBaby” is where the songs are stored and downloaded through their secure checkout.
Clicking the band name on the player goes to the page at CdBaby with all songs by that band.
—– If you want to check out more songs by that band while at CdBaby don’t just click “more albums”, instead, click right under the album/song cover photo where it says “Go To Artist Page” and there will not only be other songs and albums by that band (CdBaby calls all single songs and albums “albums” for some reason) but you’ll also see “Links” with links to the 19 artist pages for all the SoundsGoodMan.com bands

——- All the different bands and artists on the SoundsGoodMan.com label are NOT on the same CdBaby page, so you either need to do as mentioned above and choose “Go To Artist Page” or come back here to check out all the different bands as opposed to clicking “keep shopping” on CdBaby.
Check out the photos showing the parts of the two type pages on CdBaby…

Above it shows a Song Page, (in this case the song “Stuck in a Singularity” by the band “Warp Drift”) click where it says “Go To Artist Page” and all songs by that band will show PLUS Links to other SoundsGoodMan.com bands “Artist Pages”.

Above is an “Artist Page” (in this case “Warp Drift”) and you can see where the links to other SoundsGoodMan.com bands can be found so you can check out several while there or just come back to SoundsGoodMan.com

——- CdBaby handles the billing on their dedicated secure site, I and this site never see any of your billing/credit card info and have nothing to do with that part.

——- Some browsers may not play the clips but most should work, if you have multiple browsers and one won’t work, try another. Also if you have trouble let me know and please contact CdBaby and tell them of the problem. That will help us all including all the artists that need CdBaby to work for everyone.
In most any browser, you should be able to watch the vids with 10 song clips each and then if you want one of those songs just go to that band’s page on here, find the song and click the shopping cart or the song name on that player.

——- If you want to download a song, just click the little “shopping cart” on the song player and a new tab opens and it will take you to “CD Baby” which is where the songs are stored and downloaded from.
After you buy the songs or albums, you can choose high quality “lossless FLAC” which is CD quality or high-res MP3 320 or regular MP3 format and make sure you know where your downloaded files are on your computer! :-).

——- If you want more than one song, after you go to CdBaby and click “purchase” on the song there, don’t close that tab, just come back to the SoundsGoodMan.com tab and check out more songs, if you want to add one of those, click the shopping cart of that one and the NEW tab that opens at CD Baby will now have both your songs. Leave the first tab open until you choose a second or more songs because if you close it the shopping cart may empty the first song.
also as I mentioned above, —– If you want to check out more songs by that band while at CdBaby don’t just click “more albums”, instead, click right under the album/song cover photo where it says “Go To Artist Page” and there will not only be other songs and albums by that band (CdBaby calls all single songs and albums “albums” for some reason) but you’ll also see “Links” with links to the 20 artist pages for all the SoundsGoodMan.com bands

——- All the different bands and artists on the SoundsGoodMan.com label are NOT on the same CdBaby page, so you need to come back here to check out all the different bands as opposed to clicking “keep shopping” on CdBaby.

If you want to see songs only by one particular band, look for “Categories” and there will be a link for their songs and a bio about them OR you can click the band name on one of the music players and it takes you to where all their songs are.

CD Baby is what we use as our distributor, they are not a record label, They just take care of the downloading part. SoundsGoodMan.com is the record label and the bands/artists maintain 100% total artistic control and rights to the works.

——- If you want your songs on a regular CD to listen to in car or on home stereo first download the songs in any of the 3 formats offered (you can choose mp3, high definition mp3 or Flac) when you go to download your purchased song(s) … and make sure you know where downloaded files are put on your phone or computer! 🙂
A quick note here first…Flac is the highest quality but doesn’t necessarily play on all computers or phones. If your computer (PC, Mac, Ubuntu, or even Android Phone) doesn’t play Flac files, here is a free player I have heard of http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html or you can search out alternative players or convert to a type your device can play.
Back to you wanting to to burn your songs onto a CD… any of those 3 types of files mentioned need to be converted to standard audio CD files if you want your CD to work anywhere on any player.

You can do an internet search for ways to do that either on a PC or an Apple computer.

Your computer may already be able to do all of this or….

Here is one site I saw with a free converter and CD burning software to be used on a PC. http://www.anyburn.com/index.htm

For Apple computers you can read up here http://www.kirkville.com/how-to-play-flac-or-other-lossless-audio-files-in-itunes/

* I can offer no guarantees on the info or software on those sites as I have nothing to do with them, but you can check them out or use something else, it’s up to you. *

I know that may seem confusing for some folks but if you either check online or ask a friend you’ll see that it’s not as complicated as it seems and there’s really no way around it because the computer and phone makers and cd player makers all decided on different formats.

So, to sum up, …..

To burn a regular audio CD to play anywhere, you need to convert your songs to normal CD audio file type and burn (put it on) a CD.

To play Flac (or mp3) on your PC, Mac or phone you need a player (which you may or may not have) that’s set up on those to play whatever file type you have, or you need to convert those to something your device can play.

When you picture it that way it’s not as complicated as it seems.
While reading up and asking people around you may be best, you can contact me and I’ll do what I can to help.
If you have any problems with a download feel free to contact us, but if it was at the CD Baby site after a purchase the fastest way to get help is through the help link in the email they sent you plus they have a phone number you can call. But if you are not satisfied with anything or need help always feel free to contact us.

——- NOTE on ZIP files, CDBaby is working on making it so that all devices can listen to and download songs. As of right now some phones may have an issue with previewing clips or downloading or opening zip files (which are the way whole albums and some singles are sent and is a common way to send files).
I have seen apps you can use for Androids and other phones that allow you to download and open and use zip files, some phones may be able to do that out of the box, some with an added app, so searching around may help. I can not offer advice on all the various phones, but info is out there and you can contact the manufacturer, ask friends or go to forums.

This next link is one example of a free Android app to be able to open zip files. I have NOT used this or know anything about it, but that company has a lot of likes on facebook, so may be worth checking out the app, it’s up to you.
http://androidadvices.com/how-to-compress-unzip-files-android-devices/

If you have an iPhone you can go to their “App Store” and get “WinZip” for free. if you don’t know how to do that check out this site (which isn’t mine, I’m just sharing what I saw on the net, it’s up to you to read up and decide what to do).
http://smallbusiness.chron.com/open-zip-files-iphone-54962.html

Even if you can’t download a zip file to your phone, you can download it to a computer with the link CdBaby emails you and sync (transfer) it to your phone or if you do download it to your phone but can’t open it you can open it in your computer and put the music back in your phone.

They are hopefully going to make it easy for any phones etc to work properly and if you have any problems with that contact CDBaby first and then contact me if you’d like. Hopefully this won’t be a bother to anyone and if it is hopefully it will be addressed asap.
If you do have any issues listening to a clip, please contact them as the more people do, the more it will help encourage them to get things set straight.

Thanks for supporting independent music and art, enjoy!
Steve
